  • The ACNEM public lectures are a series of free lectures on a range of topics relating to Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (NEM). They are held at venues around Australia and New Zealand on a regular basis and added to this online collection from time to time. There is also a free sample lecture from the Primary Course - the first hour of the 2-hour Introduction to NEM lecture, presented by Dr Matt Shelton. We hope you will enjoy this free content with our compliments.

This module contains 15 hours of lectures which cover the latest biomedical science and research as well as practical tools for implementation in clinical practice. This foundational module contains topics such as gastrointestinal conditions, nutritional biochemistry, micronutrients, low stress diet, allergy, mental health, cardiovascular disease and metabolic health. The course is designed and delivered by the ACNEM faculty as well as specialists, and is suitable for GP’s, registrars, specialists and other healthcare professionals. The aim of this foundational module is to give you an introduction to nutritional and environmental medicine and its application in general practice to core systems of the body.
  • Primary Module 2 completes ACNEM’s Primary Module and makes up ACNEM’s starting point and a core requirement for all qualifications. The module contains 15 hours of lecturers which cover the latest biomedical science and research as well as practical tools for implementation in clinical practice. These foundational modules include topics such as childhood conditions, metabolic syndrome, migraines and headaches, men’s health, arthritis, heavy metal toxicity, cancer, thyroid and adrenal disease and women’s health. The course is designed and delivered by the ACNEM faculty as well as specialists and guest speakers. The aim of this foundational module is to give you an introduction to nutritional and environmental medicine and its application in general practice to core systems of the body.
  • The ACNEM Qualifications provide postgraduate training in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (NEM) for doctors and other healthcare practitioners. The qualifications are industry-based (issued by an organisation) and nested, meaning that you begin with the Certificate in NEM, followed by the Diploma in NEM. A Fellowship in NEM is also available to practising doctors and dentists.
  • This is the ACNEM members-only lecture series. These lectures have been carefully selected on topics of interest to members from ACNEM Online Learning.

You can access these lectures directly from a link in the member section of the ACNEM website at www.acnem.org/members using your member's login details.
  • “All disease begins in the gut” – Hippocrates
It has been established that 70% of the cells of the immune system are located in the digestive tract and a high percentage of neurotransmitters. The trillions of friendly bacteria in the gut provide the basis for health. A healthy intestinal flora also supports the barrier function of the intestinal mucous membrane against digested toxins and allergens entering the blood circulation.

This evidence based NEM approach to gastrointestinal conditions includes an overview of probiotics and prebiotics, understanding biofilms, Coeliac disease versus gluten sensitivity, treatment of IBS, intestinal hyper-permeability, detoxification, unravelling the low stress diet and exploring how the gut is the ‘second brain’. Case histories and included within the lectures and well as treatment options.
  • Living in the 21st century we are under the constant influence of thousands of chemicals. Many of these are insidious in our daily lives; the paints, carpets, beds, furnishings and gases from white goods in our homes and the interior materials in our cars, diesel fumes on our roads, runoffs and particulate matter from industry, chemicals in plastics and packaging, cosmetics and toiletries, pesticides in our foods as well as preservatives and additives to enhance shelf life.
This practical workshop will explore endocrine disrupting chemical in our environment, heavy metal toxicity, mould and biotoxins, electrical hypersensitivity, pesticides and the case of the sensitive patient. With the help of experts in the field, we will explore education to assist our patients in making informed choices, indications and clinical treatment options where available.

  • Many patients and clinicians seek non- drug based therapies to use alone or in combination with pharmaceuticals for mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and paediatric conditions such as autism and ADHD.
A comprehensive overview of evidence -based therapies and practical tips for mental health disorders will be presented including an insight into the underlying physiological issues that may contribute to neurological, behavioural and social disorders. Hear the growing scientific evidence for the effectiveness of treatment modalities including nutritional recommendations, targeted individualised supplements, sleep hygiene, exercise etc to modify brain biology and foster mental well- being. The course will include practical clinical applications of effective interventions to help with balancing brain biochemistry, mood and behaviour.

  • Metabolic Syndrome describes increased blood pressure, a high blood sugar level, central obesity and abnormal cholesterol levels. These together increase your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. These could be claimed to be simply downstream symptoms which result from poor diet, lifestyle and environmental toxins and interact with our unique genetic susceptibilities. These dietary and lifestyle factors can lead to metabolic syndrome because they create a condition known as insulin resistance. This online module will discuss the underlying biochemistry of metabolic syndrome and provide practical evidence-based solutions though diet, nutrition, gut health and case history discussion to enable immediate application in clinical practice.
  • A comprehensive guide to women’s health through life stages from a Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (NEM) perspective. This training program will address puberty, pre-menstrual syndrome, breast problems, cervical dysplasia, PCOS and other gynaecological problems, fertility and conception, pregnancy, breast feeding, post-natal depression, peri to post-menopause, other hormone imbalances, hormone replacement therapy and osteoporosis.
  • The late Thomas Szasz, a controversial psychiatrist and academic is quoted as saying, "…There is a pervasive tendency to treat children as adults, and adults as children… the result is unruly children and childish adults." This popular 15 hour ACNEM training program presents a comprehensive NEM approach to treating 'children as children'.
The NEM approach to paediatrics commences with the nutritional requirements for healthy pregnancy and breastfeeding, birth and optimal development in the early years of life, food additives and preservatives, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum (ASD) and other behavioural disorders, allergies, sensitivities and intolerances, common immune problems, family and support strategies, hormonal changes, adolescent mental health and eating disorders.
  • This Special Training Program provides nutritional and environmental approaches to allergy and autoimmune conditions including food and inhalant sensitivities, paediatric presentations of allergy, the mechanisms of sensitivity states, chronic infections, pathology testing and the role of vitamin D in the immune system.
  • Tired or Wired - Thyroid & Adrenal Conditions. “Serum TSH is normal but your patient presents with a range of symptoms of hypothyroidism”. This popular training program investigates the biochemical and physiological processes behind the symptoms of clinical and sub-clinical thyroid and adrenal conditions, and presents evidence-based NEM approaches and hormonal treatments. Featuring Dr Peter Baratosy, Dr Denis Rebic, Dr Sandeep Gupta, Dr Mona Kaur, Dr John Lee, Angela Hywood and Rachel Arthur.
  • This special training program teaches indications, safety, protocols of treatment and chelating agents such as EDTA, DMSA, DMPS, GSH & IVC, with assessment and Certification for ACNEM members who have also completed the Primary Course.

    Pre-requisite course: Injectable Nutrients.
  • This special training program teaches the safe and effective use of injectable nutrients; Vitamin B complexes, Folic Acid, B12, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc, Iron, Glutathione and Alpha-Lipoic Acid.
  • To paraphrase Leo Tolstoy, nothing surprises a man like old age, and those of us who have experienced our forties will testify that ageing seems to commence and then accelerate to 'mid-life crisis' during that decade. In this 15 hour ACNEM training program you will learn the NEM approach to menopause and to use a controversial term, 'andropause'. Both are characterised by a drop in hormone levels; oestrogen and progesterone in the female and testosterone in the male, DHEA in both.
